The Juniorate

At the end of his first year, the novice may be invited to profess his temporary monastic vows.  This period is known as the juniorate.  What began in the novitiate is given further development as the junior monk renews his temporary vows annually for a total of three years.  During the juniorate experience, the monk has ample opportunity to grow in relationship to the larger community by working with and sharing life with the solemnly professed monks.
